The 7th International Workshop on the Sharing Economy took place on 24th-26th February 2021, hosted by the Faculty of Economics and Business of the Open University of Catalonia UOC

Given the enormous impact that the COVID-19 pandemic is having on the sharing/platform economy worldwide, several participants of the workshop were invited to take part in a video series entitled ‘UOC Sharing Economy – post-Covid19 perspectives’.

This specially-commissioned video series features eight presenters from the 7th IWSE programme, each sharing their own perspectives and projections on how the COVID-19 pandemic is likely to affect different dimensions of the sharing economy in the short, medium and long term, in the specific context of their own particular research on the sharing /platform economy.

In this chapter of the audiovisual series «Sharing Economy UOC, Post-COVID19 Perspectives», the doctoral student Ramon Ruiz analyses the shared economy as an alternative proposal to fast fashion, focusing on consumer behaviour and the use of online and social network platforms.

«With the COVID-19 pandemic, we have gone from fast fashion to stop fashion. This corroborates my thesis on the idea of sharing and renting clothes instead of possessing them,» Ruiz explains.

The researcher believes that consumer behaviour has started to change and now consumers prefer to buy through online shops, social networks and, of course, shared economy platforms, which «will require the use and development of new virtual simulation technologies, such as augmented reality and, of course, the application of artificial intelligence. This will help in decision-making and in determining consumer behaviour».
